57 nations and more than 700 competitors are this weekend gathered in Duisburg for this seasons second World Cup sprint event.
After the succesful World Cup 1 in Poland the danish team is primarily focusing on the mens K4 1000 meter distance, which means that last weeks winner in Poznan in K1 1000 meter René Holten Poulsen will skip the K1 races in Duisburg.
Last weeks World Cup winner in women K1 500 meter Henriette Engel Hansen has decided to add the 200 meter distance to her races in Duisburg too. On the ladies’ side, the final of the K1 500m will be the race to watch tomorrow, as the two Hungarians Krisztina Fazekas and Danuta Kozak will race each other for an Olympic ticket and the others will aim for the gold: Rikala (FIN), Nicholss (AUS), Hansen (DEN) and Idem (ITA) are all on the starting line.
On the 200 meter distance the Nielsen Brothers is racing again in mens K2 200 meter after missing their olympic qualifiation at the European Olympic Qualifier event in Poznan last week.
Kasper Bleibach and Jimmy Bøjesen is both racing in mens K1 200 meter trying to improve their results from World Cup 1 in Poznan, where they both did not make the K1 200 meter final.
Young danish paddlers Lasse Bro Madsen, Jesper Beer and Anne Nielsen is gathering international experience in Duisburg in K1, and seems to be promising new paddlers on the danish national sprint team in the future.
